Sweden's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was one of the more acclaimed films of the last year, garnering a four-star rating from Roger Ebert, along with overwhelming critical praise for star Noomi Rapace's commanding performance and for also promising a refreshing set of thrillers to look forward to in the near future (the film was the first in a trilogy). Therefore, the Hollywood English-language remake was inevitable. Now Comingsoon.net is delivering the news from Columbia Pictures that actress Rooney Mara (Nightmare On Elm Street) will step into the big shoes left by Rapace for the lead role.
Fortunately, David Fincher (Zodiac) will be sitting in the director's chair for this remake and we know that Fincher and Mara have just worked together in The Social Network--so there might already be some potent creative chemistry brewing between the pair.
We'll find out when this American version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo premieres on December 21, 2011.
